Photography show The Memento of Guanghan: Pictures by Society for the Study of Chinese Architecture is being hosted at the Chengdu Museum in Chengdu, Sichuan from June 8 to August 31.

As the title suggests, the focal point of the exhibition is the photos taken in Guanghan county in western Sichuan nearly 80 years ago by the Society for the Study of Chinese Architecture, a private academic society focusing on field study of traditional Chinese architecture that was formed in then Beijing in 1930.

The society took 560 photos to document Guanghan’s architectural achievement in various categories from guild halls and memorial archway, to ancestral hall and temple. 122 of them are being presented at the exhibition.

To complement the precious vintage photo collection, the curator also exhibits bricks with inscriptions from Han Dynasty (206 BC to AD 220) and miniature pottery buildings from Han and Song (960-1279) dynasties.
