The Dunhuang Yadan National Geopark, covering an area of 398 square kilometers, is located about 180 kilometers northwest of Dunhuang. It shows the distinct Yadangeological features, formed over time by the wind and rain's erosion of the earth's surface, with rocks left in the desert. Some large rocks were named specifically after their distinctive shapes such as "Peacock," "Stone Bird" and "West Sea Fleet." The rock formation in the park dates back more than 700,000 years and is the largest one in China.
