    New Rules Aim to Improve Beijing’s Court System
    Beijing courts will launch a pilot program to test out new regulations on dealing with evidence-related issues in lawsuits, according to Qin Zheng'an, president of Beijing High People's Court at a press conference yesterday. The regulations will aim to improve fairness and efficiency in the judicial system.
    Tax Cut Suggested to Accelerate Nation’s Economy
    A researcher with the Development Research Center under the State Council suggests that a slight tax cut would be helpful in the current economic situation in China which has seen huge fiscal growth for the past four years. He argues that slight tax cuts in certain industries would stimulate private investment and push forward economic restructuring.
    Macao Elects New Assembly
    Some 83,600 people in Macao voted in a direct election for the Legislative Assembly on September 23 in the first election since the Special Administrative Region of China was returned to the mainland in 1999. The Assembly is composed of 27 members: Ten from direct election, ten from indirect election and seven appointed by the chief executive.

The two sides exchanged views on Sino-US cooperation in fighting against terrorism. Tang also met with US Secretary of State Colin Powell and National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice.
    China Reaffirms Support for Fight Against Terrorism
    US Vice President Richard B. Cheney Thursday met with visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan in the White House. Both sides called for further cooperation among the world community in the struggle against international terrorism and stressed the ties with each other.
    Jiang Talks Over Phone With Putin, Chirac and Blair
    Chinese President Jiang Zemin Tuesday held respective phone talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, French President Jacques Chirac and British Prime Minister Tony Blair on the international situation following the terrorist attacks against the United States on September 11. The Chinese government is firmly opposed to any kind of international terrorism, Jiang said.
