Zhongshan Hospital is a major teaching hospital affiliated with the Ministry of Health. It was founded in 1937 in commemoration of Dr. Sun Yat-sen (Sun Zhongshan in Chinese), the great pioneer of the Chinese democratic revolution.

Zhongshan Hospital now covers an area of 95,892 square meters. The hospital has 1,700 beds and among its 3,217 medical staff members are 400 professors and associate professors, 1,196 physicians, 1,242 nurses, 377 technicians, one member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and two members of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
