BMW i8 Spyder concept, the third model in BMW's i series, will make its world premiere at the Beijing Auto Show next week. The roofless sport car, like the i8 hardtop, is based on a lightweight carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic structure. It features windowless doors, two seats, and a full array of advanced electronics.

It's supported by a plug-in hybrid powertrain which can power either the front or rear wheels, or both. The 96kW electric motor on the front axle and the 1.5L 220hp turbo engine at the rear will generate a total output of 349 hp for acceleration from 0 to 60 mph in five seconds. The top speed is set at 155 mph.

The concept will likely go into production in 2015, and sold at a price starting from about 800,000 yuan (US$127,000).
