Tianjin is a metropolis in North China and is governed as a directly-controlled municipality, one of four such designations. Tianjin borders Hebei Province and Beijing, and is bounded to the east by the Bohai Gulf. Getting in and out of the city is convenient because of the well-planned transportation system.

In terms of urban population, Tianjin is the sixth largest city of China, and its urban land area ranks 5th in the nation, only after Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen.
