Chinese swimmer Li Zhesi won the women's 50 meters freestyle gold at the Guangzhou Asian Games on Tuesday.

Li, winner of the 4x100m medley relay at Guangzhou Asiad, touched the wall first in 24.97 seconds, while her teammate Tang Yi, 200m freestyle silver medallist at Guangzhou Asiad, finished second in 25.22.

Yayoi Matsumoto of Japan took the bronze in 25.67.

"I am satisfied with the gold, but my time was not good," Li said. "I feel a little tired."

"I didn't go home home for two years and my parents came to see me every two weeks. They gave me so much encouragement," Li said.

"This is my first international medal," said Matsumoto. "I came here to win a medal and I did it, although the time was not good enough.
