Both Guangzhou Asiad men's running-target titles go to China

A terrible zero-point shot from two-time Olympic champion Yang Ling didn't affect China's rule on Guangzhou Asiad men's 10m running target event on Tuesday. The team scored 1718 points to pocket the gold with a 20-point lead.

"Our event has a time limit," explained Yang. "I lost my focus after holding up the rifle. Then I missed the target, which was totally out of my expectation."

However, other two Chinese shooters presented an dominating show, especially 17-year-old Zhai Yujia. The Munich world championship silver medalist broke the Asian record with 590 points, making up for Yang's loss to drag the team back to the throne. Gan Lin added 569 points.

DPR Korea and Kazakhstan got the silver and bronze respectively.

38-year-old veteran Yang came into the shooting range both as a coach and as an athlete. His student Zhai's record-breaking performance impressed him a lot.

"It's my first time to coach a team," said Yang. "Zhai has his own idea on shooting. He is just perfect in every aspect."

Zhai brought home another gold from men's 10m running target individual event, increasing China's shooting gold number to 12.

"Shooting is my hobby. I didn't expect to have such a high score," said Zhai after the match. "I just love the rapid pace of the sport."

Zhai attributed his victory to his coach and teammate Yang.

"Coach helps me a lot. His advice and experience are extremely useful."

The silver medal for the individual event went to Jo Yong Chol of DPR Korea. South Korea's Jeong You-jin took the bronze.
