Indonesia's President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono will attend the talks on climate change in Copenhagen in December, a minister said in Jakata on Monday.

"Yes, in a cabinet meeting few days ago, the president confirmed that he will attend the conference,"Environment Minister Gusti Muhammad Hatta told reporter at a press conference.

He said that the presence of the president is expected to deliver "a new energy" to the conference as Indonesia is an important country to spearhead the fight against climate change.

Minister for Environment and International Development of Norway Erik Solheim said that the presence of Yudhoyono as well as leaders of Brazil and South Korea will have an important role as they are developing countries that are enthusiastic in reducing the impact of climate change.

"That's why we are optimistic that the talks will produce something concrete to be implemented," said Solheim.

He also said that he appreciated Indonesia in its efforts to take a lead in talks of climate change.
