Indonesia's Ministry of Environment and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) held a high level dialog on climate change on Monday, only two weeks left for the Copenhagen Climate Change Conference.

The national dialog was aimed at discussing Indonesia's change policy and its position for the Copenhagen negotiations.

Indonesia and its partners showed their commitment to address climate change, bringing together a wide range of environmental stakeholders, including government officials, civil society and development partners.

During the dialog, Indonesia launched its Second National Communication (SNC) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), an official report presenting Indonesia's progress in addressing climate change mitigation and adaptation, together with detailed information on Indonesia's green house gas (GHG) emissions.

There has been considerable controversy surrounding these emission number, especially due to differing accounts on emissions from peat land sector. The SNC deals with this issue upfront and provides a clean technical solution by comparing different analyses on the matter.

"Indonesia is aware of its responsibilities as a carbon emitter, yet also mindful of the vulnerabilities and challenges the country may face from climate change. This report offers some very useful recommendations to be taken into account," said UNDP' s Country Director Hakan Bjorkman.

He added that the UNDP commits its full support to assist Indonesia in responding to the impacts of climate change that undermines the development of the country and the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

In Copenhagen, global decision makers are expected to debate and deceit on a post Kyoto global framework to address climate change.
