An undersea earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale was strongly felt in the eastern Mediterranean island of Cyprus on Tuesday morning, but no damage or injuries were reported.

The tremor hit the region at 08:06 local time (0606 GMT) and lasted several seconds.

According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center, the epicenter was at 35.60 N, 31.48 E, or some 100 kilometers off the northwestern coast of Cyprus, with a depth of 55 kilometers below sea level.

In August and September, three quakes of lesser intensity were recorded in the same region.
