Elections to produce new provincial governors
Adjust font size:

Thirty-one provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the central government will soon hold elections. New chairmen of the Standing Committee of the provincial people's congresses, provincial governors and chairmen of the provincial committees of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) will be elected, the New Express Daily reported on December 11.

In these elections, a quarter of the vacant governor positions of at least 8 provinces shall be filled. With regard to those provinces lacking governors, such as Jiangsu and Liaoning, candidates for the provincial governors will be decided at the provincial People's Congress session held in the first two months of next year.

The top leaders attach great importance to this round of elections. The Central Commission for Disciplinary Inspection of CPC and the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee have established a supervision group which would keep an eye on the elections held across this country so as to ensure the justice, openness, democracy and integrity.
