Over 60 percent of Bangkok residents said they are opposed to the war in Iraq, according to a poll result available Wednesday.
The poll conducted a few days ago in Bangkok found that 92 percent of those surveyed were following the news on the US-Iraq conflict, the majority from the television.
The poll interviewed 1,192 respondents between 21-23 March. Sixty percent of the respondents said they opposed US action in Iraq, with a mere 24.2 percent expressing approval.
The bulk of respondents said they supported neither side, although the percentage of those supporting the United States (24.2 percent) was considerably higher than the percentage professing support for Iraq (15.8 percent).
Most of the respondents were optimistic that the war would dragon no longer than a month, and expressed support of the Thai government's plan to help rebuild Iraq once the conflict is over.
Asked how the war is going to affect Thailand, respondents cited rising petrol prices and the possibility of further terrorist threats.
