China's famous translator and publisher Feng Yidai died last night in Beijing, on the night of the lantern festival, aged 92. He contributes a lot in introducing Western culture.
Feng Yidai began his career as a publisher in the 1930s, and he also participated in the publication of Reading magazine, aiming at Chinese intellectuals in 1979. He wrote articles for the magazine for 20 years.
Feng translated Ernst Heimingway's The Fifth Column. He also translated works of William Somerset Maugham and other writers. He contributed many articles which introduced Western literature and culture to China.
