Mobile phone users in the coastal province of Shandong is now close to 6 million, ranking fourth in China after Guangdong, Zhejiang and Jiangsu provinces.
Shandong Mobile, a local branch of the state-owned China Mobile, recorded 7.3 billion yuan (US$890 million) in mobile phone operating revenue last year, up 20 percent over the previous year.
The revenue ranked second among the 13 listed provincial mobile phone companies.
The province has expanded its mobile phone network handling capacity to 10 million lines thanks to heavy investment in the past several years.
