China Strongly Condemns Terrorist Attack on Indonesia

Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Kong Quan said on Sunday that China strongly condemned the terrorist act that happened Saturday evening at Bali Island, Indonesia.

Kong said Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing has sent a message to his Indonesian counterpart Hassan Wirayuda expressing the Chinese government's condolences for the victims of the bombings and conveying the sympathy for their family members.

China would continue to support the Indonesian government's efforts to combat terrorism and maintain the domestic stability, said Kong.

The blasts shocked Bali, a famous resort of Indonesia, killing at least 26 people by Sunday morning, local media reports said on Sunday. Meanwhile 127 people were reportedly injured in the blasts in two areas in Jimabaran and Kuta on the resort island. They are now being treated in nearby hospitals, Detik webline said. The latest findings also showed that 21 persons were missing in the bombings.

The victims included foreign tourists. Putu Putra Wisada, a spokesman at the Sangla Hospital in Denpasar, said that his hospital admitted 11 dead and 38 others wounded – eight Australians, two Americans and 28 Indonesians.

No casualty was reported yesterday among Chinese tourists, including nearly 200 from Shanghai, in the Bali bombings, according to the Chinese Embassy in Jakarta.

Travel agencies in Shanghai yesterday cancelled several trips to the island originally planned for local residents during the week-long National Day holiday.

This is the second largest bomb blast in last three years. On Oct. 12, 2002, bomb blasts occurred in Bali, killing 202 people mostly Australian vacationers.
