Explosions Rock on Indonesia's Bali Island

The triple bombings in Indonesia's resort province of Bali on Saturday evening, which reportedly killed at least 30 people and injured dozens, "were clearly the work of terrorists," the website of Jakarta Post quoted police as saying.

Bombs exploded almost simultaneously in two tourist areas of Bali, police Major General Ansyaad Mbai, a top Indonesian anti-terrorism official, was quoted as saying.

The victims included foreign tourists, he added.

Putu Putra Wisada, a spokesman at the Sangla Hospital in Denpasar, said that his hospital admitted 11 dead and 38 others wounded -- eight Australians, two Americans and 28 Indonesians.

A receptionist at the Graha Asih Hospital close to Jimbaran Bay said that at least eight bodies were in the morgue, and doctors were treating at least 13 other people.

Meanwhile, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono will leave on first occasion for Bali to inspect scenes of bomb blasts, Presidential Spokesman Andi Mallarangeng said.

The president had ordered Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Widodo, State Inelligence Agency Head Syamsir Siregar and Indonesian Police Chief General Sutanto to leave for Bali on Saturday night.

At least three bombs exploded at two tourism spots of Jimbaran and Kuta Town Square in Bali on Saturday.

The first and second explosions occurred at 18:50 p.m. (local time) at a food court in Jimbaran district and the third blast at 19:00 p.m. in Kuta Town Square.

On Oct. 12, 2002, bomb blasts occurred in Bali, killing 202 people, mostly Australian vacationers.
