A top official in north China's Hebei Province has been dismissed from office after being charged with taking huge bribes, official sources said on last Friday.
Cong Fukui, deputy governor of Hebei, has been accused by local prosecutors with extorting great sums of money between March 1996 and June 2000.
Cong is said to have asked for and received bribes from Yutong Industrial Co Ltd after helping the company gain approval for construction projects and loans.
According to the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the Ministry of Supervision, Cong has also been deprived of his CPC membership.
Last November, Cong's status as a deputy to the National People's Congress was revoked.
The CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection earlier has issued a nationwide circular, urging administrations at all levels of the Party to strengthen its education and supervision of cadres who are Party members.
