5, Hollywood writers' strike
The Writers Guild of America (WGA) went on the strike over new media pay and royalties on November 5, 2007. More than 12,000 writers joined the strike, causing havoc in the entertainment industry, from award shows like the Golden Globe, to TV schedules and movie productions. The strike ended on February 12, 2008 with an agreement between WGA and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers. The Oscar Ceremony was saved and scripted TV shows returned to the airwaves.
