Chinese shares closed slightly lower on midday Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.28 percent, or 7.87 points, to 2,812.31 in the morning session.

The Shenzhen Component Index lost 0.49 percent, or 60.04 points, to close the morning session at 12,276.25.
