Chinese equities fell modestly at midday Thursday with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index losing 15.72 points, or 0.6 percent, to finish the morning session at 2,622.81.

The Shenzhen Component Index weakened 0.72 percent to end at 10,792.28 at midday.
