NATO spokespersons on Friday said the alliance has been making "steady and tangible progress" in hitting targets of Gaddafi's forces and seeking to degrade his commanding capability.

"Our mission has been making steady and tangible progress across the country (Libya). NATO nations and partners agree: we have taken the initiative. We have the momentum," NATO deputy spokeswoman Carmen Romero told a press briefing.

Her remarks came seven weeks after NATO assumed full command of the military campaign against the Tripoli government.

However, there is still no quick end in sight for the military deadlock in the oil-rich North African country, as Gaddafi has showed no signs of giving in.

Wing Commander Mike Bracken, spokesperson for the NATO mission, said that the alliance was putting more pressure on Gaddafi by striking military command and control centers in Tripoli.
