Zhong Jianqin

35-year-old Zhong Jianqin was an official of Yunnan frontier defense corps and Chinese riot squad in Haiti.

Born in Nan Feng City of Jiangxi Province in December 1975, Zhong Jianqin became a soldier in December 1993, and joined the Communist Party of China in May 1999. He became a peacekeeper in December 2007, and was dispatched to Haiti twice to implement the peacekeeping mission.

As an information officer of the sixth branch of the Chinese peacekeeping force in Haiti, his main job was to record the work and daily life of the whole squad, then present it to countrymen and the whole world. During the eight months of the first mission in Haiti, he published 306 news stories and 14 TV documentaries in the domestic media.

His colleagues commented that in the face of violence, he chose to press the shutter to record the moment instead of protecting himself with his gun. It is reported that he shot 267 boxes of DV and took more than 60,000 file photos altogether.

On July 9, 2008, Zhong Jianqin and his riot squad in Haiti were awarded a "Peace Medal" by the United Nations.
