KIEV, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- Ukrainian lawmakers are prepared to develop a legislative framework for elections, the country's first deputy speaker Oleksandr Korniyenko said Thursday.

Korniyenko noted the conflict with Russia remains a key challenge for organizing the elections. Additionally, ensuring voting for internally displaced persons, military personnel, and Ukrainians who left the country is another challenge.

Ukrainian political expert Igor Popov said on Facebook that if all legal amendments are adopted and all political agreements are reached within three weeks, the elections could be announced in early January and take place in April.

Another analyst, Vadym Denysenko, said on Facebook that he doubts voting could take place soon, given that a ceasefire is needed to ensure safe voting. Russia is unlikely to halt fighting for Ukraine's elections, he said.

Earlier this week, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said elections in Ukraine could be held within 60 to 90 days if the United States and Europe offer security guarantees. Enditem
