OTTAWA, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- Cross-border trips between Canada and the United States fell sharply in September, continuing a months-long decline, particularly among Canadian residents returning from the United States, Statistics Canada reported Friday.
The number of Canadian residents returning from the United States by car totaled 1.4 million trips in September, a 34.8 percent decline from the same month in 2024, said the agency, marking the ninth straight month of year-over-year declines.
In September, trips to Canada by U.S. residents in automobiles totaled 1.1 million, a 5.3 percent decrease from the same month last year. This marked the eighth consecutive month of year-over-year declines, it said.
Air travel between the two countries also decreased. In September, arrivals by U.S. residents by air fell by 0.4 percent from the same month in 2024, while return trips by Canadian residents from the United States by air declined 27.1 percent, it added. Enditem
