BEIJING, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- China's commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War underscores the country's commitment to peace, stability and multilateral cooperation, wrote Mehmood Ul Hassan Khan, president of the Center for Knowledge and Public Policy.

In his article published on the website of Pakistan Observer in September, the professor said the anniversary event was intended to honor Chinese soldiers, martyrs and civilians who died during the war rather than serve any political or geopolitical purpose. He wrote that the commemoration reflected "the Chinese nation's true love, respect and thankfulness to its brave soldiers" and highlighted the role of the Communist Party of China in leading national resistance against Japanese aggression.

He praised President Xi Jinping's remarks at the ceremony, saying Xi's message focused on remembering history and promoting global peace. He wrote that the anniversary reaffirmed China's position as a "force for peace, stability and progress" and rejected any interpretation linking it to hostility or rivalry.

The analyst also criticized what he described as Japan's attempts to "whitewash" wartime history and its plans to expand defense spending and deploy new missile systems. He urged Japan to "act with prudence" and respect regional security concerns.

The president concluded that the commemoration demonstrated China's resolve to safeguard historical truth, honor wartime sacrifices and prevent future aggression through peaceful development and cooperation. Enditem
