BAGHDAD, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani and Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed in a phone call on Thursday evening to postpone the first Arab-Russian Summit.
The two leaders agreed to reschedule the summit, originally set to be held next Wednesday, "in light of the ongoing regional and international diplomatic efforts aimed at halting the aggression against Gaza," a statement from al-Sudani's media office read.
The statement emphasized that both sides will convey the information regarding the postponement of the summit to the capitals of the Arab countries through diplomatic channels.
During the phone talks, al-Sudani affirmed "Iraq's support for all efforts to achieve stability in the region, and to enhance strategic communication between the Arab countries and the Russian Federation."
He also underscored that Iraq seeks to make the Arab-Russian Summit a platform for strengthening international partnerships, advancing national development in Arab countries, and promoting integration in the sectors of economy, energy and investment, among others. Enditem
