BRUSSELS, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) -- The European Commission said on Thursday that it will launch an investigation into allegations that Hungary has been conducting spy activities in Brussels, according to multiple media reports.
A joint investigative report by media outlets from Hungary, Germany, and Belgium claimed that Hungary was suspected of establishing a spy network in Brussels to monitor the European Union's (EU) decision-making.
According to the report, the agents allegedly operated under the cover of Hungary's Permanent Representation to the EU, targeting Hungarian staff members within the European Commission, as sensitive documents related to Hungary are prepared and discussed there.
According to Hungarian media outlet Index, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said on Thursday that he had no knowledge of the alleged Brussels espionage case and dismissed the claims as baseless. Enditem
