CAIRO, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- Indirect negotiations between Hamas and Israel kicked off on Wednesday for the third day in Egypt's Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt's state-affiliated Al-Qahera News reported.
Head of Egypt's General Intelligence Service Hassan Mahmoud Rashad, Qatar's Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, and Turkish National Intelligence Organization Director Ibrahim Kalin joined the talks, said the report.
Also present at the negotiations were the Israeli delegation and U.S. Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff and U.S. President Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner, it said.
The talks will discuss the issue of hostages, the commitment not to repeat aggression on Gaza, the terms of the Israeli withdrawal and access to aid for the Strip, according to the report.
The latest round of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict erupted on Oct. 7, 2023, when a large-scale Hamas attack on southern Israel killed roughly 1,200 people and took about 250 hostages. Since then, Israel's response has caused a severe humanitarian crisis in Gaza, with local health authorities reporting more than 67,000 Palestinians killed in Israeli military operations. Enditem
