KABUL, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- Afghan law enforcement authorities have seized an array of firearms and military equipment during a series of orchestrated operations in western Herat province over the past six months, the Ministry of Interior Affairs said in a statement on Wednesday.
The confiscated items were collected from Herat city, the provincial capital, and adjoining districts, according to the statement.
Police also arrested several people for illegally holding and carrying weapons and referred their dossiers to the judiciary for further investigation, the statement added.
This comes after police reported seizing nearly 400 pieces of various firearms and military equipment in southern Helmand province on Monday.
As part of efforts to ensure viable peace in the post-war Afghanistan, the Afghan government's security organs have collected thousands of arms and ammunition, including battle tanks, since taking over power more than four years ago. Enditem
