BRATISLAVA/BUDAPEST, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) -- Crude oil deliveries through the Druzhba pipeline to Slovakia were halted on Monday, though Slovak operator Transpetrol said transit across its territory remains unaffected.
"Our company has no further information about the reason for the halt, which occurred outside Slovak territory. Oil transport through Slovakia is secure and is being carried out in accordance with the plan," the company told the News Agency of the Slovak Republic.
In a posting on X, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto accused Ukraine of attacking the pipeline, calling the disruption "outrageous and unacceptable." He said Russian officials told him repairs were under way to restore a transformer station essential to pipeline operations, but gave no timeline for resuming supplies.
He also reiterated Hungary's stance of staying out of the Russian-Ukraine conflict, saying, "This is not our war... Hungary will stay out of it."
Responding on X, Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha dismissed the allegations and criticized Hungary for maintaining reliance on Russian energy.
Despite the stoppage, Hungarian oil and gas group MOL said regional supplies remain secure. Enditem
