PHNOM PENH, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) -- The chiefs of Cambodian and Thai regional military regions on Saturday vowed to avoid clashes after a ceasefire agreement reached by both countries recently, said a press release issued by the Cambodian side.

Their commitment was made during an extraordinary Regional Border Committee meeting held in Thailand's Trat province.

It said both sides agreed in principle to establish a coordinating group to enhance communication at all levels.

"As border demarcation is currently underway, demining can be considered in areas that are demarcated or in non-disputed areas, as agreed upon by the Joint Boundary Commissions of the two countries," the press release said.

Armed clashes between Thai and Cambodian forces erupted on July 24 along their border and lasted for five days. The two ASEAN member states agreed to a ceasefire on the afternoon of July 28, which took effect at midnight on the same day. Enditem
