KABUL, July 2 (Xinhua) -- Police discovered and confiscated more than 5.7 tons of illegal drugs in northern Afghanistan's Takhar province on Wednesday, provincial police spokesman Nizamudin Omir said.
Smugglers were attempting to take the contraband -- more than 5.7 tons of opium poppy hidden in two oil tankers -- out of the province, but were identified and intercepted by police.
During the inspection, police discovered the drugs and arrested two smugglers, the official further said.
This is the second-largest consignment of illegal drugs that has been discovered in Takhar province over the past week. Enditem
