ANKARA, July 2 (Xinhua) -- Turkish security forces have seized 825 kg of heroin and detained 30 suspects linked to an international drug trafficking organization in an operation across seven provinces, Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said Wednesday.
The operation, based in southeast Türkiye's Adana and extending to Hakkari, Hatay, Istanbul, Van, Diyarbakir and Mersin provinces, targeted an organized criminal network allegedly led by a fugitive abroad identified as S.I., the minister said on the social media platform X, without specifying the time frame of the operation.
Simultaneous raids were carried out at 38 locations under the direction of the Adana Chief Public Prosecutor's Office and the Anti-Narcotics Department of the General Directorate of Security, the Turkish minister said.
Authorities confiscated unlicensed firearms and a significant number of digital materials during the raids, he added.
Türkiye, located at the crossroads of Asia and Europe, remains a key transit route in international drug trafficking. Turkish security forces regularly conduct operations to combat those crimes. Enditem
