JERUSALEM, July 1 (Xinhua) -- Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz vowed on Tuesday to retaliate against Yemen's Houthi forces after a missile fired from Yemen toward Israel was intercepted earlier in the evening.

"Yemen will be treated like Tehran," Katz said in a statement. "Whoever raises a hand against Israel -- that hand will be cut off."

The missile, which triggered air raid sirens across parts of central and southern Israel, including Jerusalem and the Dead Sea, was intercepted by the Israeli Air Force, the military said. No injuries were reported.

Houthi forces have repeatedly claimed missile and drone attacks on Israel since the start of the Gaza war in October 2023, saying they act in solidarity with the Palestinians and would stop attacks if Israel ends its offensive and blockade of the enclave. Israel has carried out multiple airstrikes in Yemen, targeting key ports, airport, and other infrastructure. Enditem
