JAKARTA, July 1 (Xinhua) -- The Indonesian National Police showcased 10 humanoid robots during the institution's anniversary celebration in Jakarta on Tuesday, highlighting the country's efforts to embrace modern technology in the security sector.
The celebration, held at the National Monument area in Central Jakarta, featured robots that resembled human bodies and wore police attributes such as berets and vests.
The robots performed demonstrations including marching in formation, saluting, and running. Each was operated remotely by a police officer using a handheld controller.
"The robots are part of the police's commitment to adopt modern technological advances," said Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, head of the public information bureau of the Indonesian National Police, speaking to reporters after the event.
He added that humanoid robots could assist police work, particularly in identifying perpetrators involved in the frequent brawls occurring in Jakarta.
In addition to the humanoid robots, the police also demonstrated four-legged robots resembling dogs. These robots are reportedly designed to detect potential explosives in vehicles, including trucks carrying radioactive materials. Enditem
