ISTANBUL, July 1 (Xinhua) -- Turkish police on Tuesday detained 102 people, including opposition party members in the western port city of Izmir, and a former mayor, as part of an ongoing anti-corruption investigation, local media reported.
The Izmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office issued detention warrants for 157 individuals affiliated with the Republican People's Party (CHP) and the CHP-led Izmir municipality, according to broadcaster NTV.
So far, 102 people have been detained, including former Izmir Mayor Tunc Soyer and Senol Aslanoglu, the CHP's Izmir provincial chair.
The suspects were reportedly taken into custody on charges of "rigging public tenders," "fraud in the performance of obligations," and "aggravated fraud."
In March, Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu and around 100 officials from the Istanbul municipality were detained on corruption charges. Imamoglu, who denied all the accusations, was later suspended from office. Enditem
