SEVILLE, Spain, June 30 (Xinhua) -- Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez on Monday urged inclusive and strong multilateralism at the opening session of the fourth International Conference on Financing for Development, held here in southern Spain.
Sanchez, who is also serving as the chairman of the conference, said that under the current global landscape, inclusive and strong multilateralism is particularly necessary, and the United Nations should be at its core.
He called on the delegates to translate slogans into action, address differences through unity, and enhance trust through dialogue.
Noting that two-thirds of the UN Sustainable Development Goals are falling behind schedule, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said at the opening session that the conference will take action in three areas - accelerating the flow of funds, reforming the international debt system, and increasing the participation of developing countries in international financial system institutions.
The conference, focusing on global development financing issues, will continue through Thursday, with participation from representatives of governments, international organizations, financial institutions, business communities, among others. Enditem
