Slovakia will reduce its sales of surplus CO2-emission quotas to Spain than originally planned, Environment Minister Peter Ziga announced on Wednesday.

Slovakia will sell assigned amount units representing 7 million tonnes of greenhouse-emission to Spain according a draft contract drawn up by the Environment Ministry and approved by the government earlier in the day. The original amount was 27 million tonnes.

The ministry did not give any reason for the reduction, nor did it provide details as to the purchase price.

Assigned amount units were distributed to countries based on the Kyoto Protocol, which set limits on greenhouse gas emissions from 2008 to 2012.
