Japan's House of Representatives election ended early Monday as the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and its ally secured a total of 325 seats in the general election held Sunday.

The LDP headed by Shinzo Abe solo secured 294 seats in the lower house and the New Komeito Party won 31 seats, according to Japan's broadcaster NHK.

Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda's Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ) only secured 57 seats. The stunning defeat made Noda resign from the presidency of the DPJ.

The Japan Restoration Party and the Tomorrow Party of Japan gained 54 and nine seats respectively while other seven parties and independent candidates got the rest.

Abe is expected to become Japan's new prime minister and he will form a coalition government with the New Komeito Party. Endi
