Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al- Moallem said Saturday that the sanctions imposed on Syria by the European Union and the United States are to be blamed for the suffering of the Syrian people and he urged the UN to condemn those sanctions and call for their abrogation.

Al-Moallem made the remarks during his meeting Saturday with the visiting Valerie Amos, the UN under-secretary-general for humanitarian affairs.

The minister also urged the UN to cooperate in rebuilding what has been ruined by armed terrorist groups in Syria of infrastructure and hospitals and underlined his country's appreciation for the efforts of the UN offices in Syria.

According to the state-run SANA news agency, al-Moallem voiced Syria's willingness to coordinate with the UN to hand over humanitarian aids to those who deserve them and who have been affected by the attacks of armed terrorist groups on private and public properties.

For her part, Amos expressed appreciation for the Syrian government's effort in the humanitarian field and in facilitating the UN mission, stressing that her office in Damascus would continue its works in submitting humanitarian aids in coordination of the Syrian government, according to SANA.

After meeting with al-Moallem, Amos held a meeting with Ali Haidar, the minister of national reconciliation, after which the minister told reporters that international organizations have failed so far to submit what is demanded from them and are still exploiting the issue of humanitarian aids politically more than being an exclusive humanitarian ones.

Haider said his talks with Amos have focused on the international relief project for the Syrian people.

He said he has appealed on UN organization to increase cooperation and render assistance for all Syrian people without exception, stressing that this should be done through the state's institutions and civil societies and "not for other considerations. "

He made it clear that if international organizations show real intentions in dealing with Syria as a state, "we are ready to cooperation."

Haider said that the gunmen in some hotspots in Syria are the sole responsible for not delivering aid, noting that many humanitarian aids via the Syrian Red Crescent and the health ministry, were seized by gunmen. Endi
