Nikkei closes 0.97 pct lower on concern over Chinese economy

TOKYO, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- Nikkei closed 0.97 percent lower on concern over a slowdown in the Chinese economy.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended down 87.16 points, or 0.97 percent, from Thursday at 8,891.44. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange finished 5. 05 points, or 0.67 percent, lower at 746.79.

Decliners included the electricity and gas, rubber products and transport equipment sectors. Gainers included the oil and coal products, insurance and retail sectors.

The turnover was about 941.0 billion yen (about 11.97 billion U. S. dollars). Enditem
