2 Indian border guards washed away in flash floods in Indian-controlled Kashmir

SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir, July 26 (Xinhua) -- Two Indian border guards including an officer of India's Border Security Force (BSF) Thursday went missing after their vehicle was washed away by flash flood in Indian-controlled Kashmir, officials said.

The flash flood was triggered by rains early morning near Nowshera in Rajouri district, around 195 km northwest of Jammu city, the winter capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir. "The duo was traveling from Nowshera to Sunderbani when their vehicle was hit by flash flood while crossing a rivulet at Seri," said a senior BSF official posted in Jammu.

Soon after the incident, rescue teams of Indian army and BSF were pressed into service to trace the missing border guards. The officials said the vehicle was spotted by rescue teams few hundred meters away from the spot.

"The men are still missing," the official said.

In 2010, at least 234 people including some foreign tourists were killed in flash floods that hit region's Ladakh division. Enditem
