A manager of the radio cab company Uber was attacked Wednesday in Mumbai, days after a driver of the app-run cab company was arrested for raping a woman passenger in the Indian capital last weekend, said local media Thursday.

Uber's General Manager for Mumbai operations, Shailesh Sawlani, on Wednesday evening was attacked by a man from a rival cab union after attending a meeting with Maharashtra transport commissioner' s office, said local daily Indian Express online.

Sawlani, who managed the Uber services in Mumbai, had attended a meeting called by the transport commissioner Mahesh Zagade to discuss about measures required to ensure passenger safety in licensed and radio taxis.

Sawlani was chased by the media when a man came up to him and tried to hit him. Sawlani was pushed and he fell on the ground, said the report.

The attacker was a member of a rival cab union. He had also submitted a letter to the state transport commissioner demanding a total shutdown of radio taxi services.

A 44-year-old cab driver was arrested early this week for raping a 25-year-old woman passenger on a Uber cab in Delhi last Friday.

Indian authorities have banned Uber cab operation in the Indian capital and slammed it with cheating.
