Senior CPC official meets Cambodian PM

Cambodia and China on Monday expressed hope to further enhance ties and cooperation between the two countries' ruling parties for the benefits of the two countries and peoples.

Speaking during a meeting with Prime Minister Hun Sen, Chen Fengxiang, deputy head of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), who is on a visit to Cambodia, said the CPC attached great importance to its traditional and friendship relations with the CPP.

He said his visit was to further boost ties and cooperation between the two parties for the benefits of the two countries and peoples.

"China is very satisfied in its relations with Cambodia," Chen said, adding that China would continue supporting the Cambodian government under the leadership of Prime Minister Hun Sen.

For his part, Hun Sen pledged to continue further deepening bilateral relations and cooperation between the two countries for mutual benefits.

He proposed that there should be more frequent exchange of visits among party officials and youths between the two countries so as to create closer relations and communication.

Earlier in the day, Chen held a talk with Say Chhum, CPP's Secretary General and first Vice-President of the Senate.

Both sides pledged to strengthen relations and strategic communication, promote exchanges between officials and youths in order to contribute to enhancing the China-Cambodia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership of Cooperation.

He also met with President of the royalist Funcinpec Party Princess Norodom Arun Rasmey. Both sides also vowed to continue strengthening cooperation between the CPC and the Funcinpec Party.

According to the Chinese Embassy to Cambodia, Chen's visit aimed to further promote traditional friendship, enhance strategic communication and exchange experiences in state governance between the CPC and Cambodia's CPP and Funcinpec Party.

Chen arrived here on Sunday for a four-day official visit. He is also scheduled to visit Angkor Wat Temple, a world heritage site, in northwestern Siem Reap province.
