Car blast in Damascus' suburb kills 10

As many as 10 people were killed and 50 others injured when a car bomb tore through a restive suburb of Syria's capital Damascus on Wednesday evening, activists said.
The Local Coordination Committee (LCC), an activists' network documenting the crisis in Syria, reported the blast at al- Muadiamieh, which has emerged as a stronghold for the armed rebels.
Details surrounding the blast remain murky with the absence of official comments.
The LCC posted on its Facebook page a video footage purporting to show the destruction caused by the car blast and accused the administration of staging the incident. However, a pro-government news website said the blast site is under the rebels' control.
Most of Syria's blasts were claimed by the al-Qaida-linked al- Nusra Front, which has recently been labeled by the U.S. as a terrorist organization. But activists often accuse the government of carrying out blasts to tarnish the opposition fighters.
According to UN estimates, more than 60,000 people have been killed in Syria since the unrest erupted in early 2011. Also, the World Food Program said that around 2.5 million people in Syria are in need of food assistance but only 1.5 million can receive supplies from the agency.
