Japan's presumptive Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has decided to appoint his Liberal Democratic Party's ( LDP) Fumio Kishida as the country's foreign minister, Japan's Kyodo News Agency reported Tuesday.

Kishida now is a lower house lawmaker of the LDP and he served as state minister in charge of Okinawa-related issues under Abe's previous government.

Yoriko Kawaguchi, a 71-year-old upper house lawmaker of the LDP, was reportedly in lead to return the post under Abe's new cabinet.

Kawaguchi was the country's top diplomat from 2002 to 2004 under then-Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi's government.

Abe is expected to become Japan's new prime minister on Wednesday during a special session of the Diet and he, now, is mulling the suitable candidates that will constitute his cabinet which will be formed immediately after he reclaims the prime minister.

Taro Aso, a former prime minister, is likely to take the posts of finance minister, financial services minister and deputy prime minister, while Yoshihide Suga is expected to become chief cabinet secretary, according to Kyodo.
