Russia voices regret over DPRK's rocket launch

Russia on Wednesday expressed "deep regret" over the rocket launch by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), saying the move violated a UN Security Council resolution.
"The step of the DPRK is a violation of UN Security Council Resolution 1874, which bans launches using ballistic missile technology in the country," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The launch will not help strengthen stability but will instead have a negative effect on the situation in the region, the ministry said.
Moscow urged the DPRK not to take new steps against UN Security Council resolutions and called on other nations to avoid actions that would escalate tensions.
"We expect that other parties would refrain from steps capable of heating the atmosphere and putting new obstacles in the way of resuming the six-party talks," the ministry said.
Meanwhile, Alexei Zolotukhin, a Russian Aerospace Defense Forces spokesman, said the trajectory of the DPRK rocket ran outside Russian territory.
The DPRK on Wednesday successfully launched and orbited the second version of Kwangmyongsong-3 satellite using the Unha-3 carrier rocket, official news agency KCNA reported.
