Tokyo's request to land on Diaoyu Islands is rejected

Japanese central government rejected Tokyo metropolitan government's application of landing on Diaoyu Islands Monday, said Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Osamu Fujimura on a press conference.

Fujimura said central government does not allow any citizen landing on Diaoyu Islands in order to maintain the stability of the area, so the government rejected Tokyo's request following the consistent principle.
The central government has sent written notice of the rejection to Tokyo metropolitan government on Monday afternoon.
Tokyo metropolitan government said in response that it will carry on the survey of the islands in this week on the surrounding water without landing on, because it's a necessary step for buying the islands.
Tokyo plans to hold another survey on Diaoyu Islands in October which the governor of Tokyo Shintao Ishihara will take part in.
The central government accepted Tokyo's request last Tuesday.
Ishihara announced in April that the Tokyo government plans to purchase three of the five uninhabited islands.
