The hijack of an oil-tanker carrying 950,000 barrels of crude oil for Indonesia in the Arabian Sea off Oman is not going to impact on the production of refinery in Indonesia as the country has more stockpile, official said.

The vessel, M/T SMYRNI, a Liberian flagged tanker, is operated by a Greek firm. It lost contact on Thursday at 18:15 p.m. Jakarta time (1115 GMT). "The hijack of tanker carrying 950,000 barrel crude oil of Azery from Azerbaijan is not going to disturb the production of whole refinery in the country, particularly the refinery in Balikpapan (of East kalimatan) which is the destination of the crude oil," Mochamad Harun, spokesman of the state oil-and-gas firm PT Pertamina said in a statement on Saturday. "The Pertamina has had a back up system of crude supply that allowed the Balikpapan refinery continue operation normally," he added.

The spokesman said that the firm did not suffer a financial loss as the hijack took place during the transportation and it was protected by insurance, said Harun.
